Dr. Danielle Pickinpaugh has a profound passion for helping patients who suffer from orofacial pain conditions. Raised in Simpsonville, Kentucky, she attended the University of Kentucky for her undergraduate studies majoring in Biology with a minor in Family Studies. During her time in college, a close family member was diagnosed with trigeminal neuralgia, a debilitating facial pain disorder that significantly impacts a person’s quality of life. Inspired by this experience, Dr. Pickinpaugh pursued a PhD in Physiology at the University of Kentucky, focusing on orofacial pain, in particular on trigeminal neuropathic pain.
She then completed two and a half years of postdoctoral training in Anatomy and Neuroscience, concentrating on traumatic brain injury and Alzheimer's disease. However, her strong desire to directly help patients led her to pursue a dental degree at the University of Kentucky. After graduating with her DMD, Dr. Pickinpaugh furthered her expertise with additional training in TMD (temporomandibular disorders) and myofascial muscular pain, exploring treatments such as guard/splint therapy, laser therapy, neuromuscular modulators (Botox), occlusion correction, trigger point therapy, sleep apnea therapy, full mouth restoration, implant placement, dental aesthetics, and more. She has a passion for learning and continues to attend CE courses dedicated to broadening her knowledge.
While her primary focus remains on relieving physical orofacial pain, Dr. Pickinpaugh has also developed a deep appreciation for the aesthetic side of dentistry. She enjoys giving people new smiles and offering aesthetic treatments that help boost their confidence and self-esteem.
Dr. Pickinpaugh is a proud member of the KDA (Kentucky Dental Association), AAFE (American Academy of Facial Esthetics) , and AGD (Academy of General Dentistry), with certifications in TMD therapy, Botox and filler treatments, PDO threads, occlusion therapy, gingival fillers, and more. She is passionate about helping anyone in need and would love the opportunity to assist you.
In her free time, Dr. Pickinpaugh enjoys spending time with her wonderful husband, Derek, and their two children, Reagan (5) and Noble (2). She is very close to her parents and siblings and feels truly blessed to return home and serve the community she loves. Her faith in Jesus Christ plays a central role in her journey, and she hopes to share that light with every patient she meets.
